Hey mister death wish I can see by your face That something died inside of you Your spirit is all but crushed and there ain't a soul you trust And everything you love has turned to dust You set ablaze everyone who turned An ugly hand upon your plate And some demon masquerades behind the mask upon your face And no one here dares speak your name Run! Go call to heaven for your thunder now Burn the whole place down Burn the whole place down We'll fix a grave for your broken heart Throw the pieces down Throw the pieces down Hey self destruction man listen here Don't you pull your guns on me You put holes in everything and holes in me You leave nothing standing but your own misery This place you came to well it isn't much I don't look on it with pride Ah but seeing I got time and very much alive I don't feel the need to die Run! Go call to heaven for your thunder now Burn the whole place down Burn the whole place down We'll fix a grave for your broken heart Throw the pieces down Throw the pieces down

Gold Fever 03:42
Years ago I labored so Spent my days always searching for the gold Devoid of light No end in sight I chose to live 'neath the cover of the night Then one day A woman came She wished to lay with me and ease my pain I could not keep Her love with me I broke my vow and she began to weep All my searching It came to nothing No gold did I find One thousand mornings One thousand evenings No tears did I cry It was pride That struck me blind I chose seclusion for my pretty bride Nothing could shake Me from this fate I closed my eyes and waved it all away My hands are shaking Gold fever's taken The joy I might have known My heart is racing I am forsaken No love to call my own

about

These two songs are outtakes from the DUSKLAND album released on No Quarter back in 2015. Both songs were recorded for the album but as we already had a decent amount of songs for one LP some sacrifices had to be made.

"Holes in Everything" was written around the time of the NOISE OF WELCOME LP and was played out on the road with many a Zachary Cale band lineup. There are two live versions from a 2011 US tour we did with D. Charles Speer & The Helix. One is on LIVE ON WNUR which can be heard here on Bandcamp, another is on our first DAYTROTTER SESSION.

"Gold Fever" was written at the same time as the rest of the DUSKLAND LP. At the time it felt like a cousin to "Holes in Everything". Both tunes have a amped up country rock on amphetamines vibe. In simpler times people might have have called them barn burners. I think the inherent swagger in these tunes was a little much for the mostly contemplative widescreen magic hour tones of DUSKLAND. So after much time sitting in the vault here is another look into that time period.

Enjoy!
